Japan’s national men’s rugby team has opened its training camp in Beppu City as preparations continue for the upcoming European tour in November and the 2027 Rugby World Cup. A total of 36 players are taking part in the camp, focusing on improving teamwork, fitness, and match strategies. Among the new faces is Riku Tokito, who has earned his first selection to the 15-a-side national team. He hopes to use his speed to contribute to Japan’s fast-paced rugby style. The team arrived in Oita on October 11 and trained at Jissoji Multipurpose Ground in Beppu until October 20. A public training session was scheduled for October 17, giving local rugby fans an opportunity to watch the national team in action. Following the camp, Japan will face Fiji in a test match in Tokyo on October 24. Source: Oita Godo Shimbun | October 13, 2026
