🚨 VOLCANO ALERT: MOUNT ASO
The Fukuoka Regional Headquarters of the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a Level 3 volcanic eruption alert for Mount Aso at 3:45 PM today, August 14. According to the alert: * Volcanic tremor activity has been increasing since around 7:00 PM on August 12. * Since shortly after 3:00 PM today, the one-minute average amplitude at the monitoring station southwest of Nakadake has exceeded 4 micrometers per second. * A field survey today confirmed that sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions have risen sharply to more than 2,000 tonnes per day, compared with about 1,200 tonnes per day during the previous survey six days ago. * JMA says volcanic activity at Mount Aso is increasing further. * An eruption capable of affecting areas within approximately 2 km of the Nakadake No. 1 crater is possible. ⚠️ Alert Level 3: Do Not Approach the Volcano Entry to the mountain is restricted. People should stay away from the danger zone around the crater and follow instructions from local authorities.
